Diwali, also known as Deepavali (Festival of Lights) is a festival celebrated by Hindus in autumn or spring every year. The festival signifies victory of Light over Darkness or Good over Evil. Before Diwali night, people renovate their houses

Diwali is celebrated throughout the country. The Hindus are very happy on this day. They celebrate it with great pomp and show. It often falls October/November every year.

It marks rama's return from forest. Diwali is the biggest festival of India. Diwali is celebrated because on this day Lord Rama returned from 14 years of exile after defeating Ravana. People lighten Diya (Lamps) on this day and express their happiness.

People are very happy on this day, they purchase gifts, crackers, clothes for Diwali. Deepavali is the festival of five days.

dhanteras 2016

The first day is Dhanteras. Dhanteras is also known as Dhantrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi.

On Dhanteras Goddess Laxmi is worshiped by people for prosperity and well being. With Dhanteras Diyas begin to be lighted by people. Hindus also purchase gold aur silver and many more things.

naraka chaturdashi

The Second day of Diwali festival is Roop Chaturdashi or Naraka Chaturdashi. It is Sondarya Sadhna divas. One can perform some sadhna for his/her beauty on this day. After Rupchoudas the next day is Diwali. All people wear new clothes on this day. The whole India is litup. People worship goddess laxmi at night. Children play with their crackers.

govardhan puja

After celebrating Diwali, the 4th day is celebrated as Govardhan Puja, this day is also known as Annakoot, devotees offer a large variety of vegetarian food to the murtis of Paramatma(God) as a mark of gratitude.

bhai dooj 2016

Last day of Diwali festival is known as Bhai Dooj. The celebrations of this day are similar to the festival of Raksha Bandhan. On this day, sisters pray for a long and happy life for their brothers, by performing the Tika ceremony.
